Final Encyclopedia post

Finished the book, here were a few final notes...

Tunisia: confirms Dharma used a polar bear to turn the dinkey wheel and it was warped to Tunisia.

Walt Lloyd: One of the rare humans "attuned" to the island. (of course, but didn't have much for this last post...)

Yemi: Eko's final vision of Yemi was actually the Smoke Monster (another obvious one, but a confirmation, and like I said, not alot left to report).

Ok, so that's the book... nothing else left.

I probably won't write anything else here until I start the first, of what I hope to be many, re-watches. I'll go over questions that I still have after viewing the entire series. There really aren't THAT many.

See ya.

More stuff

The Staff: The last birth on the island was Ethan Rom in 1977

Stuart Radzinsky: the book makes it sound like he assigned himself and Inman to the Swan, but this timing doesn’t make any sense, since we Inman in Iraq with Sayid… hmmm… anyway… also makes reference to the blast door map being Stu’s “war map” against the Others.

Sun-Hwa Kwon: Candidate #42, never says if it’s Jin or Sun, officially.
The Swan: similar notes about Stu’s blast door map and the hieroglyphs were intended to mean “to die” but there is no official translation.

Taweret: Was built by ancient Egyptians, and was destroyed in 1867.

The Temple: Some translations from the hieroglyphs: the north door, “hail, thou beautiful power, thou beautiful rudder of the northern heaven. The east door, “hail, splendor, dweller, in the temple of the ashemu gods, beautiful rudder of the eastern heaven. The west door, “hail, thou who cirlest, guide of the two lands, beautiful rudder of the western heaven”.

Tom Friendly: Candidate # 109. Tom shot and killed Felix, the man who had proof of the successful operation of faking flight 815’s discovery, (the guy Naomi had Miles “read”).

More Book stuff

Shannon Rutherford:

- Candidate #31.

- Also said it was never confirmed whether her visions of Walt were really warnings from Walt or some Smoke Monster trick. (items like this bug me, cuz they make the rest of the book seem flawed... Walt wasn't dead, so how coudl Smokey show up as him?)

The Sickness:

- One of the sicknesses was caused by the Smoke Monster. He needed a wound or entry point to enter the body and darken their spirit.

- Smoke Monster actually killed Montand and then posed as him to lure the other French team members down into the hole.

- Dogen never had complete knowledge of the Sickness (like us!!!)

- Before the Incident in 1977 pregnant women could safely give birth.

- Kelvin Inman was aware of the Purge.

The Smoke Monster:

- The Man in Black's "spirit became fused with the all-powerful force that lay hidden inside the heart's island".

Quick one...

In Sawyer's section it mentions that he and Kate had a tight bond that grew into a great friendship even after they made it off the island. So that's nice.

More book stuff...

Almost done...

Magnus Hanso: Jacob was the person who commissioned the expedition. Hanso told his first mate as much. So he brought that boat to the island.

Man in Black: He could appear at two places at once (Isabella/Richard scene).

Medusa Spider: The Man in Black appeared as the Medusa spider and but Nikki in that form.

Mother: She killed the Man in Black’s campmates at night. It does not make any mention of her being a “smoke monster”.

Nadine: The team crashed in 1988.

Nikki and Paulo: Confirmed above. A REAL medusa spider bit Paulo, but it was the Smoke Monster that got Nikki.

Oceanic Flight 815:
- Survivors: Janelle Granger kept a diary (this was online I believe, I didn’t know this was her name though)
- Emma: Along with Rose, Bernard, Zach and Cindy, she joined Hurley.

The Others: Richard was impervious to the smoke monster’s attacks.

The Pearl: SR (written on the journal notepads) was Subject Radzinksy, and SI was Subject Inman. The mark in the ground above the hatch was a circle and not a question mark. The ? on the blast door map just meant Radzinsky didn’t know who was in there.

Penelopes Widmore Hume: Desmond made it off the island back to her and Charlie.

Pierre Chang: killed during the Purge.

The Purge: Radzinksy survived the Purge because he was stationed in the Swan hatch, he somehow figured out what happened with the gas, and subsequently labeled the Arrow and The Swan as Quarantined.

Ryan Price: Candidate #14

More book stuff...

I think I totally missed the point of the finale... "Let go, move on"... cuz I've done neither of those. TV sucks now. You realize Lost would have started season 7 by now right? Ya know if there was a season 7...

Anyway, here's some more stuff I found interesting from the book:

Kate Austen:
- Candidate #51
- Says 1977 as her birthdate, but a picture of her passport says 1979.

The Lamp Post:
- The first station built by the DI.
- Only off island station.
- Built it around an electromagnetic pocket in LA.
- After Hawking left the island to give birth to Daniel, she took over the Lamp Post (doesn’t say how), and she kept it from Widmore because they weren’t on good terms anymore.

Lighthouse:
- Just some numbers I thought were interesting:
- 14 Pryce
- 20 Rousseau
- 101 Faraday
- 102 Montand
- 104 Lewis
- There were just a few from a couple of screenshots.

John Locke:
- Locke and Walt were both special and “attuned” to the island
- Locke DID see the smoke monster early in season 1 (don’t remember the exact episode, but it’s when they went on the boar hunt and Michael got hurt, right?). He thought the smoke monster’s flashes to pull his memories were beautiful.

Looms:
- Jacob was the one who left a piece of his tapestry in the cabin so Ilana and crew could find him.
- Some quotes translated from the tapestrys: “May the gods grant thee all that thy heart desires” and “…and may the gods grant thee happiness” both from the Odyssey by Homer. “Only the dead have seen the end of war”, by Unkown. Also, on the red tapestry, three from the Iliad by Homer: “Now by evil war thy heart’s desire”, “And the earth flowed with blood”, and “And trhe black cloud of death enfolded him”.

More book stuff

Jacob -

Mentions that Pickett was wrong about Jacob's list. He was wrong abotu a lot of things.

One part of Jacob's tapestry was a quote from "The Odyssey": "And may the Gods grant thee happiness"

When we first saw the Cabin, Jacob was no longer using it.The Man in Black put on the display for ben and Locke and made it so Locke could only hear him say "Help Me"

Jin-Soo Kwon -

Listed as Candidate #42 (but so was Sun... so....)

They do have a paragraph on Ji Yeon. Seemed like folks thought it was passed over. Probably deserved more, but she is represented.

Juliet Burke -

Listed as Candidate # 58

She was branded with the fleur-de-lis or lily flower. In France during the 17th century, criminals earned this brand for treasonous acts. (maybe everyone else knew this, but I didn't).

More book shizz...

Frank Lapidus: confirms he got the plane back to civilization.

Geronimo Jackson: A member named Floyd may have left the band to join the DI.

Ilana Verdansky: Jacob touched her face to heal her burns (maybe they showed this… I don’t remember)

The Incident:

- The bomb WAS detonated.
- Chang’s arm was later amputated

The Island: They list translations of the scripts on the island’s cork:
- “Embrace that which the Balance hath weighed, let a path be made for the Osiris in the Great Valley, and let the Osiris have light to guide him on his way.”
- “He hath reconciled the Two Fighters (Horus and Set), the guardians of life.”
- “Break the immovable yoke that we may sleep”
- “That silence may reign and we may sleep”

Notes continues...

D -

Daniel Faraday: Born off island in Essex, MA. Hawking gave him the surname Faraday whose "path" she wanted him to follow closely. It also mentions that Daniel did a ton of research on the Dharma Initiative... doesn't say why though (convenient answer to a question that always bugged me... why'd he know so much about DI even before he went to the island... unless he conscious skipped... and ... nevermind)

Danielle Rouseau: Candidate #20. There's an interesting note about her arriving after the purge. From my crummy math and Ben's entry... the purge must have JUUUUST happened when she and her crew landed.

Danny Picket: mentioned he was once considered for Jacob's candidacy.

E -

Eko: The smoke monster singled him out because he recognized him as an on island threat and wanted to remove him.

Eloise Hawking: She gave Daniel the name Faraday as an homage and a tool to keep Widmore from finding him. She left the island at 41 years old in 1978 to give birth to Daniel. She took the job at the ring store to ensure she'd run into Desmond and keep him on the correct path (not sure how she knew he'd be there... whatever)

Ethan Rom: Ethan and his mother returned to the island after the evacuation due to their relationship with Horace Goodspeed. Ethan wanted to join the Others and Widmore would allow it if he helped carry out the purge. (Guess that mean Ethan helped kill his folks... yikes.)

More notes...

Update...

Forgot a B.

Boone Carlyle: Confirms he was candidate #226

Ok... just finished C

C -

Charles Widmore: Eloise lef the island to safely have their baby (Faraday). The Purge was Widmore's call after they didn't follow the rules of the truce.

Charlotte Lewis: Cadidate #140

Christian Shephard: Confirms that it was the Man in Black as Christian who told Vincent to go wake up Jack after the crash. (This scene was depicted in a web short I believe... can't remember what seasons it was between)

Cindy Chandler: Cindy, Zach and Emma survived the mortar attack and escaped into the jungle. Also says along with Rose and Bernard, joined under Hurley's guard. (dissapointingly, it didn't really say any special converting method to joining the others. They explained their cause and she joined up basically)

More Lost Stuff!!!

I bought the Lost Encyclopedia (of course I did). It's official and shit, so it gives a few notes here and there that weren't necessarily made clear on the show (or weren't at all).

Here's some stuff I found interesting. I'll keep updating... really for my own records. But if anyone else wants to read and comment, boy that'd be swell.

Epilogue: I also read the "epilogue" of the book, it goes over the major characters in the sideways world, with some pictures, a few quotes and what their sideways journey was all about. A few interesting notes:

Sayid: Why Shannon woke him up... the love with Shannon allowed him to be the man he wanted to be. (Posters note, haha: It makes sense to me. Sayid had so much baggage and memories of the terrible life he used to lead and Nadia (not her fault but...) was a constant reminder of that. The relationship he formed with Shannon wasn't based on anything but his character)

Jack: I posted anout this one before, but the entry discusses David a little bit, and just that his upbringing was VERY similar to Jack's. (makes me think David was just a younger version of Jack so he coudl work out his father issues.)

A -

Ajira Flight 316: confirms that it was Widmore's goons that murdered the remaining passengers left on Hydra island.

Annie: Annie left the island during the women and children evacutation.

Ash: The ash circle around the cabin was broken at an undisclosed time, and it WAS used by Jacob, but after the circle was broken, the Man in Black began to use it. Ash was also used in the Sayid/Dogen tests.

B -

Ben: The "rules" Ben spoke to Widmore about in his London penthouse were to never harm each other or their families.

Blast Door Map: There's really a ton of little things here but here are a few:
The ? on the map was due to Radzinksy (R) not knowing who occupied the station.
R did not know what was going on at the Orchid
After the Purge R survived and marked the stations he could get to with the quarantine sign, and took refuge in the Swan.
The CVs that are all over the map refer to a Cerebrus Vent the name DI used for the smoke monster.

Bram: again mentions that they went to the Cabin to find Jacob but realized MiB had been using it so they burned it.
