The REAL Episode Recap: The Incident

I think we can break it down into 5, then 4 different storylines:

1) Jacob's visits
2) Lapidus, Ilana, Bram and the Statue freaks
3) Locke (or is he... DUN DUN DUUUUUN), Sun, Ben Richard and the Others
4) Sawyer, Juliette and Kate (soon to merge with Jack & Co)
5) Jack & Co.

I'll try and do it in that order... and add some plot points as well, so it's hopefully a little easier to follow. Here goes nothing... or everything.

1) Jacob's visits

So the first scene... CRAZY!!! Jacob and his "friend" hang out on the beach. Basically this scene is so insane there's nothing to say. What I gathered from it, (and we saw some of this later when Jacob touches all the losties), was Jacob brings people to the island in almost a sociological experiment to see if humanity... is... I dunno... ready? Maybe the island is the Garden of Eden. Anyway... this apparently disgusts his nemesis on the beach, and he wants to kill Jacob. Needs a loophole though. He found it. Are these the early stages of the rules? Like how Ben and Widmore can't kill each other? I think so. Looks liek Lost will be a classic battle of good vs. evil. But I'm not ready to say which side is which yet. Though I'm leaning more towards Jacob being a "good guy".

Couple things to note:

- Looked like the Black Rock in the distance to me. And I'll bet Richard, or should we say Ricardos, is a sailor on that boat. I'm hoping Season 6 begins with a Richard flashback where Jacob explains EVERYTHING to Richard. I think the audience would agree with me there!!!!!!

- The knife that Jacob used? Looks like we see it later... more on that.

- The statue definitely wasn't Anubis, and there are plenty of places online you can find who it is, I'm too lazy to link to them though.

So Jacob visits all of the losties in the past at various MAJOR moments in their lives and TOUCHES them:

1 - Kate... tells her not to steal
2- Sawyer... gives him the pen to write his letter
3 - Sayid... did he get Nadia killed or did he save Sayid?
4 - Ilana.... WHO? yeah she wasn't on the plane, but this might have been one of the more important ones. There seemed to be a previous relationship at their meeting, right? Why was she all messed up? I think we'll learn plenty more about her next season.
5 - Locke... Did he save his life? If so why? Did he not know that his reincarnated body would ultimately kill him?
6 - Jin and Sun... crashed their wedding (Jin's vows were like 12 words, and he needed to write them down? Stupid son of a lowly fisherman)
7 - Jack... gave Jack an Apollo bar after the famous count to 5 surgery, and had a curious line about Jack just needing a little push.
8 - Hurley... This visit rivals Ilana's in intrigue. Is Hurley destined for something larger in the grand island scheme? Think he got to say goodbye to his Ma & Pa? That guitar? i think it was symbolic of Charlie, and it helped get Ajira 316 closer to Oceanic 815... but it also pulled on Hugo's heart strings. Sorry.

Two people conspicuous by their absence in these certain flashbacks: Miles and Juliette. Wouldn't surprise me if the Miles touch scene was deleted or something, but Juliette had a flashback and Jacob was nowhere to be found. I think this spells real trouble for Juliette. Even if Jack's plan worked.

I'm guessing the Jacob touches will somehow keep them safe.

Not sure how this will work but the Incident happened.... more later.

2) Ilana and Co.

- They wonder if Lapidus is a worthy candidate. I'm guessing that's in reference to being on Jacob's list or not. (side note: remember in season 3 when Danny Pickett said Jack wasn't even on Jacob's List? Well was that list all a Ben lie or what?)

- Bram seems like a bit a of dumb ass to be in some enlightened group like this.

- Solid Lapidus reaction to seeing what lied in the box: "Terrific"

- They get to Jacob's Cabin... or is it his cabin. The ash ring around it is broken. So does that mean someone was allowed in or out now? More later. It's trashed and Jacob isn't there. But there's a piece of cloth (looks like the stuff that Jacob wove earlier) that's stabbed to the wall (with the knife Jacob had earlier). That leads them to the statue. I think Jacob left them a sign where he would be.

- Big question I have... didn't think of it until the second viewing. Ilana says someone else has been "using it" and they burn it down. Why bother burning it down unless there's some use to it? I'll bet there's a huge value or power in the cabin that we'll find out about at some point.

- They head to the beach. We'll catch up with them in Locke's story.

and...

3) Locke and Co.

- Why didn't Ben ever meat Jacob? If he wasn't supposed to, then why was he supposed to be the leader? Why did Richard go along with it for so long? Like when Ben originally took Locke to go meet Jacob. Richard didn't think hat was weird? I digress...

- Richard Alpert was made ageless somehow by Jacob. Let's see that flashback!

- Ben admits to faking the Jacob meeting. I actually believe him, cuz he's still scared of Smokey and dead Alex. Wonder what he'd do if he was sitting right next to him? more later...

- They get to the statue where Jacob lives, and Richard gets all whiny about Ben going in. What does Richard know and what doesn't he know? He knows what lies in the shadow of the statue!

- He who will save us... or something like that. That's what it means. And then... they dump dead Locke out on the beach. WHAT!?!?!? But that means...!?!?!??! In all seriousness.... I think that means Locke is dead. And that is lame.

- Ben kills Jacob after Jacob pretty much confirms that Ben isn't that important. Locke, who I think it's pretty clear, is being possessed by the dude from the beach just watches it happen. He found his loophole.

- Before Jacob dies he lets fake-Locke know that "They are coming". I'm guessing he's referring to all the people he touched. They're coming back to save him and the island.

So a few theories... or attempts at theories before we get to 1977. And since I've been rambling forever already, I'll probably repeat myself.

I'm gonna assume, and I reserve the right to change my mind, that all of the "dead" people we see on the island, were actually this dude. And HE is actually Smokey. All influencing people negatively either to prove Jacob wrong about humanity or to further his plot to kill Jacob.

on to the 70's

4) Sawyer and Co.

They bail on the sub to stop Jack but before they meet up with him... they meet up with...

Rose and Bernard... and VINCENT! Don't get me wrong. It was good to see that they were ok, but 3 things

1) They live 5 miles away from Dharmaville and no one found them? No way.
2) That's cool that you don't want to have anything to do with the Dharma Initiative, and you no longer want to associate with the other survivors, but it didn't change the fact that other people were worried about you. Insensitive.
3) Looks like it will be tough for Vincent to be reunited with Walt now.

I think this will be the last we see of Rose and Bernard, they'll live out their lives relatively happy until they move into the caves with black and white rocks in their pockets and die. they'll end up being Adam and Eve. I hope we get a scene proving this... but not sure how we would at this point.

5) Jack and Co.

Before we begin, anyone wonder why Faraday waited 8 or so hours before the Incident to let everyone know it was going to happen? Thanks dude. Fair planning all the way around.

- Richard mentions that Eloise is the leader after he knocks her out to get her out of there. I'll bet she was exiled, maybe due to Widmore! The Chuck takes over. Then Ben. Then Locke.

- Jack and Sayid get the bomb and leave thru Dharmaville. (side note: why the hell did Dharma build their city on these ruins and tunnels... plus they had to have known the bomb was there? Did they not inspect the are at all?)

- Another side note: Since they evacuated all the women and children, or non-essential personal. Wouldn't Amy and Ethan have been evacuated? How'd Ethan get back?

- Sayid gets shot. I'd be extra worried about him dying but... Roger Workman shot him. There's no way they're gonna let Sayid be killed by Roger frackin' Workman.

- Rad reaction shot from Jack though... once he sees Sayid go down, he turns into another Jack. That's right. Jack Bauer. He starts wiping people out before Hurley saves the day, once again, in a Dharma van. Jack gets a huge grin on his face. He does that a couple of times. Sort of cool.

- Jack and Sawyer go at it:

1) Sawyer sort of fights like a bitch. Nut shots? Come on dude.
2) Jack's Kate logic is a little off, but whatever.
3) No way Jack agrees to the 5 minute chat while Sayid is bleedin' out in the van,

- I think/hope Miles is right. This is how the incident went down. Bomb and all.

- Anyone else notice Chang pull the gun on Radzinksy? That should be an interesting day at work on Monday.

Soooo... the incident happens. And Juliette get sucked down the pit and ultimately launches the nuke. Very strong stuff from Halloway and Mitchell in these scenes. good stuff.

I think she'll be the only one who really dies. And that's sad. She led a pretty tragic life. I'll miss the character.

So what happens now?

I think the touching linked them to Jacob.

I think they will be warped back to present day where the war will begin in season 6. Jacob followers vs. Locke/evil dude and Ben. Ummm.... that's the best I got for now. There are way to many ... ahem... variables... and I have no clue where the show is going.

Great finale. Doesn't touch the season 3 finale if you ask me. But really strong.

I was gonna rewatch the seasons this summer anyway, but with the Jacob and his nemesis, and the limited info we now have about them... it'll be like watching new episodes.

I might do the questions/unanswered list again if I feel like it, so check back from time to time.

I didn't re-read this, or check for typos, so it might just be a fucking mess. If so, maybe I'll check it later and change it.

Anyway, great season. Just 8 more months until we can do it again. Thanks for reading.

If you read all this, you're just as dedicated (pathetic) as I am.

  1. I forgot to really hammer this home. Jacob knew Ben would kill him and let it happen cuz he knew it'd bring jack and co to the island present. Not sure why that's so important that they get there but that's what I got. For now.

  3. Ok- bear with me.... A loooong time ago I thought that the smoke monster was inhabiting Christian (I posted it on you other blog) now I still think that is true and would make sense in the way that it looks into your soul and sees what you are made of. By telling Ben to do whatever Locke says it is obvious that it is taking the form of Locke and Bens daughter to manipulate Ben. What confuses me is the smoke monsters run-ins with Eko, and why it took the form of his brother. Im having trouble remembering what it told him to do and if it connects with the idea of the monster having a grand plan of killing Jacob. Also- remember when we first see what we think is Jacob and there were stillframes of what looked like Locke sitting in the chair? Well that would make sense since it doesn't seem to be Jacob but actually was his rival. Im going to stop now cuz im going to start heading in too many directions.

  4. Good thoughts! I think it's anti-Jacob taking the form of those guys. And I'll try and make sense of the Yemi deal after rewatching the eps. But I think this other DUDE just has this contempt for humanity and wants to see it fail. Probably didn't like that Eko was so content with his place in life. NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT.... Eko whispered to Locke that he was next. And he sort of was... the Smoke Monster may have got him too!!!!!

  6. I with Amanda on this one, sign me up for being pathetic because I love it! And I also agree that you should re-recap some of the blogs you've written after re-watching the season. We're always curious about what you think!! Great season!

  7. Do you think that Jacob can see future events? What seems strange is that Jacob is seemingly bringing people to the island to fight the good fight, shouldn't he know that Locke presents the loophole?

  8. The Locke situation is confusing. And yeah, I sort of think Jacob traveled back in time to get the people he needed. Basically cuz I don't like the idea of him knowing about them previously. I still want Desmond not pushing the button to be the primary reason the plane crashed to begin with. Not cuz Jacob's touch brought them there.
