Episode Recap: The Incident

Honestly... I don't know what to say.

Jacob visited them all in the past. Did HE bring them to the island?

Jacob got killed by fake-Locke and Ben. So the dude from earlier was inhabiting Locke's body right? So was he also Christian Shepherd? Was he the one hanging out in the cabin all this time? Is he the smoke monster?

The questions are basically unlimited.

Juliette. Is she dead? And if she's dead is everyone else? No way, obviously, but how will they explain it.

What was the answer to the question? What lies in the shadow of the statue? Richard knows. Are they all team Jacob?

Good vs. Evil. Black vs. White. Lots of themes.

I guess I'm just bummed that we don't have a TON to go on for next season.

I'll watch it again tomorrow and try and have more to say.

Sorry.

  1. I should wait until you post again but here is my 2 cents. If the other dude is evil and needs a body to live in, why was Christian not good enough? It's interesting to go back to what he says since we thought he was Jacob. Remember when he told vincent to wake jack up because he had work to do in that online short? This whole thing has thrown me for a loop

  2. Absolutely amazing ep last night. I couldn't sleep trying to get my mind around it.

Seems as though the island & it's inhabitants are involved in some sort of game developed by Jacob, and perhaps another party whom we met at the beginning. Jacob brings people to the island, then possibly manipulates them to go to war with one another.

Not sure if the guy who killed Jacob is "fake Locke" or not. Jacob mentions Locke "found the loophole". What does that mean? I think maybe Locke found some sort of time travel loophole which allows him to exist in different time frames then those he encounters. Perhaps that's also how Christian keeps popping up on the island.

I was bummed Juliette died, but realized if she's dead, then everyone else in the vicinity of the bomb must be dead as well. No way they would kill off that many people including Jack, Sawyer & Kate. Remember, the theory is the bomb just resets everything. If the bomb just killed everyone, well, next season would be pretty boring.

Miles had an interesting point, what if the detination of the bomb is "the event" and is the reason they're all there. Well, if the bomb had been detinated the first time, then it wouldn't have been there for Jack & Sayid to retrieve, right? Bang, just shot a hole in that theory.

Kind of lame bringing Rose & Bernard back. Seems they do that alot just to tie up loose story ends. "Oh yea, what the hell do we do with those 2? Let's just say they've been living in the jungle the whole time. Yea, that works." They did serve kind of deliver an interesting point though. They've found happiness on the island and no longer see the point of chasing people around trying to kill one another.

Yet again, I haven't the foggiest clue how next season will start. Would be kind of cool if they plopped the losties right back where they started. Is there any chance Charlie, Michael, Boone et al will be back?

Well, at least we have 7 months to figure it out.

  3. See I'm bummed now... I promise to put some better stuff up tonight.

EP- Excellent point. I think (and I reserve the right to change my mind) that any newly animated dead body was Jacob's buddy/enemy. Although Christian's actions seem to be more Jacob like. So maybe they both can do it.

    Colin -

Yeah it's almost liek they perform a sociological experiment on groups and try and see if humanity will flourish or not.

I think evil-dude inhabits the bodies and all sorts of things... re-watching the series is almost a must now. The loophole was (i think) referencing him finding a way to kill jacob

I think Jacob touching them in the past will somehow save them. Which means Juliette will be dead. It was too great of a moment her falling and then blowing the place up. Moving stuff. This would spell trouble for Miles too, since I don't remember him being touched.

CK - Miles had an interesting point, what if the detination of the bomb is "the event" and is the reason they're all there. Well, if the bomb had been detinated the first time, then it wouldn't have been there for Jack & Sayid to retrieve, right? Bang, just shot a hole in that theory.

These time loops are impossible to digest. But I think Miles was right

It was to appease fans I think. Although this would make them the leading candidates for being Adam & Eve from the caves.

Also... they were pretty bitter, acting pretty jerky. Sorry for keeping you guys alive for so long and always taking care of you. Our bad!

Part of me thinks that woudl be cool part of me thinks it would be a cop out and we just wasted 5 seasons.

  4. Any thought on what appeared to be Juliette opening her eyes Jack style after the episode? It looked like how Jack did in the first scene of the pilot ep......

  5. Ok, I'm just going out on a limb here. Since I don't follow the show as closely (but try to) don't make fun of me if I'm way off. But are there some hidden religious tones here? I think some of us bloggers have mentioned that in the past, but have the writers? I was thinking about it last night. Names referring back to the bible or religious under tones such as Jacob, Christian, Shepard (Jack) and last night they made a reference to Moses. Then Finn's comments with Rose and Bernard being Adam and Eve. Maybe the whole idea of the show is Good vs. Evil/ God vs. the Devil or maybe religion vs. Science......don't REALLY know but thought I'd mention it.

  6. Kate, for the last time... KEEP YOUR RIGHT-WING, RELIGIOUS AGENDA, THE FRACK OFF OF MY BLOG!!!!

But, yes, I think it would be very safe to say that there are some real SUBTLE religious undertones in this show.

Now... I will take a quick shower, (have fun with that one ladies), and sit down for the re-watch. The Recap will be posted shortly there after. Hopefully in time for all the half hour comedies tonight. After last night's Juliette/Swayer moment... *sniff*... I could use a good laugh.

  7. One part that bothered me when I rewatched the fake Locke/Ben/Jacob scene was how Jacob responded to Ben. The way he says "What about you?" seems way too jerky. They might as well have had say "Are you crying? Oh, you gonna cry for me Ben?" It was almost like he wanted to push him over the edge.

Also, if the bomb being detonated is The Incident, it wouldn't change the fact that it's there for Jack to retrieve.

And the answer that Richard gave translates to "He who will protect us all.”
